Vocabulary

Family: parents, siblings, cousin, nephew, niece, grandparents, in-laws. Relations: close friend, classmate, neighbour, colleague, to get on well with, to fall out with, to trust, to rely on.

Grammar: present simple vs present continuous

  • Present simple: habits, routines, general truths. I visit my grandparents every Friday. Signal words: always, usually, often, every day. Add -s with he/she/it.
  • Present continuous (am/is/are + verb-ing): actions happening now or temporary situations. She is studying in Rabat this year. Signal words: now, at the moment, these days.
  • Stative verbs (like, love, know, want, believe) are not usually used in the continuous form.

Function: introducing yourself and others

Hi, I’m Salma. I’m from Fes. — This is my friend Yassine. — Nice to meet you. — Nice to meet you too.

Writing tip: a personal profile

Name and age → where you live → family → hobbies → plans. Use linking words: and, but, also, because.
