Grammar: the passive voice
- Form: be + past participle. The object of the active sentence becomes the subject.
- Present: Zellige is made by hand. Past: The museum was built in 1920.
- Use “by” to say who did the action, only if it is important.
- We use the passive when the action is more important than the person who does it.
Function: expressing opinions
In my opinion… — I think / I believe… — Personally, I find it… Agree: I agree with you. Disagree: I see your point, but…
Writing tip: a review of a film or a concert
Title, type, what it is about, what you liked or disliked, a star rating.
